Our Story

Giving Hope. Sharing Grace. Changing Lives.

For over 30 years, Pathways Clinic has been walking alongside women, men, and families in the Camas-Washougal community when it matters most.

1994

Humble Beginnings

Pathways Clinic β€” then known as Community Pregnancy Clinic β€” opened its doors in Camas in 1994 with just 350 square feet of office space on Cedar Street. Resources were limited: clothing donations had to be stored offsite, and only a handful of clients were served that first year. But word spread quickly. Women in need found a place that offered not just practical help, but genuine care β€” and soon, those 350 square feet simply weren’t enough.

1995–2016

Growing Into the Calling

In 1995, the clinic moved to a larger space β€” a remodeled house with our clothing Boutique tucked into the basement β€” ready to expand both its footprint and its mission. As the vision for medical services grew, the space was updated to house an ultrasound machine, a turning point in the clinic’s history. Seeing a heartbeat, watching tiny fingers curl on a screen β€” these moments became powerful, life-affirming encounters for women navigating one of the hardest decisions of their lives.

Alongside ultrasound services, the clinic launched a prenatal education program, giving staff and volunteers more time with each client β€” time to build trust, offer encouragement, and share hope.

In 2009, Pathways launched what would become one of its most impactful programs: Earn While You Learn. What started as 8 lessons grew to nearly 200 β€” covering prenatal health, parenting skills, life skills, and Bible study. Clients earned points by completing lessons, which they could redeem for essential items β€” car seats, diapers, formula, clothing, and furniture β€” all generously donated by local churches and residents of the Camas-Washougal community.

2017

A New Name, A Deeper Welcome

2017 marked more than a change of address β€” it marked a new chapter in how Pathways would present itself to the community.

After years of serving under the name Community Pregnancy Clinic, the staff and board made a thoughtful, intentional decision: to adopt a name that would remove any barrier between a woman in need and the help waiting for her. They knew that stigma β€” real or perceived β€” could keep someone from walking through the door at the very moment she needed support most.

The name Pathways was chosen with care. It reflects the heart of everything the clinic does β€” providing pathways to resources, pathways to support, and a safe, judgment-free space to explore all available options. No assumptions. No pressure. Just a team of people ready to walk alongside you, wherever you are.

The new name arrived alongside a new home β€” a bright, welcoming storefront clinic designed to feel less like a medical office and more like a place where you belong. Two private consultation rooms and an ultrasound room built with a specific purpose in mind: large enough to welcome everyone who matters. At Pathways, we believe that fathers, grandparents, and loved ones shouldn’t wait in the hallway for one of life’s most profound moments. Our ultrasound room was designed so that those directly involved can gather around the screen and witness the miracle of new life together.

2018

A Voice for the Mission

When new leadership joined Pathways in 2018, the mission that had been lived out quietly for over two decades finally found its words.

“Giving Hope. Sharing Grace. Changing Lives.”

The tagline wasn’t manufactured in a boardroom β€” it emerged organically from watching what Pathways actually does, day after day, client after client. It captures the full arc of a visit to Pathways: a woman walks in uncertain, afraid, or alone β€” and walks out with hope she didn’t have before, grace she may not have expected, and a life quietly, sometimes profoundly, changed.

Rooted in Christian faith from its very first day, Pathways has never strayed from the belief that every life has immeasurable value β€” and that the most powerful thing we can offer any client, alongside practical resources and medical care, is the love of Christ expressed through compassionate, judgment-free service.

Expanding to Meet Every Need

Pathways has never stopped growing β€” and neither has our commitment to meeting clients where they are.

In 2020, the Earn While You Learn program was reimagined as Bright Course, giving clients the freedom and flexibility to access their lessons online, on their own schedule. Same life-changing content. More accessible than ever.

In 2024, Pathways expanded its medical services with the addition of STI testing and treatment β€” broadening our ability to serve the whole health of our clients with compassion and confidentiality.

And in 2026, we took a significant step toward serving the whole family with the launch of our Fatherhood Program. Men’s coaches now work alongside our client advocates, offering education, support, and encouragement for dads and dads-to-be. Because we know that when fathers are equipped and engaged, families are stronger.

Pathways to Legacy

Thirty years in, our waiting rooms are full and our vision is bigger than ever. That’s why Pathways has launched the Pathways to Legacy Capital Campaign β€” a community-wide effort to fund a new, larger clinic space that will allow us to serve more families, expand our programs, and deepen our roots in this community for the next generation.

The story that began on Cedar Street in 1994 with 350 square feet and a heart full of faith is far from over. The best chapters of Pathways may be the ones still to come.
